GoodWe 7kW EV Charger Installation for BMW iX2 in Altona North
Completed in Altona North, this residential EV charger installation included the supply and installation of a GoodWe 7kW Single-Phase HCA G2 EV Charger for a BMW iX2.
The project included a dedicated single-phase EV charging circuit, required RCBO/RCD protection, charger mounting near the main switchboard in the garage, hardwired data/communications cabling to the GoodWe inverter location, GoodWe charger setup, dynamic load balancing configuration where supported, testing, commissioning and Certificate of Electrical Safety.
Project Overview
This Altona North installation was a residential EV charger supply and installation project for a customer with an existing GoodWe solar and battery system.
The property already had a GoodWe solar array and a 16.6kW GoodWe home battery system, with the GoodWe inverter and battery equipment located inside the garage.
The customer required a dedicated home EV charger for a BMW iX2, with the preferred setup being a GoodWe 7kW Single-Phase HCA G2 EV Charger installed near the main switchboard area.
Because the property already used GoodWe solar and battery equipment, the charger installation also included a hardwired data/communications cable between the charger/switchboard area and the GoodWe inverter location.
The goal was to complete a clean, integrated GoodWe EV charging setup that suited the existing energy system, supported dynamic load balancing where available and provided a dedicated charging point for everyday home EV charging.
This type of installation needs to be planned around the switchboard, charger location, inverter location, communications cable pathway, battery system, available enclosure space and manufacturer-supported integration options.

What the Client Needed
The client needed a dedicated home EV charging solution for a BMW iX2.
Because the property already had a GoodWe solar and battery system, the preferred charger was a GoodWe HCA G2 unit that could be installed as part of the existing GoodWe ecosystem.
The charger needed to be positioned in the garage near the main switchboard, with a short cable run from the switchboard area to the charger location.
The existing GoodWe inverter and battery equipment were also located in the garage, which made the site suitable for a hardwired data/communications cable between the charger and the GoodWe inverter location.
The customer needed the installation to include the charger supply, dedicated EV circuit, required circuit protection, communications cabling, GoodWe charger setup, dynamic load balancing setup where supported, testing, commissioning and Certificate of Electrical Safety.
What We Installed
This project included:
Supply and installation of a GoodWe 7kW Single-Phase HCA G2 EV Charger
GoodWe charger model GW7K-HCA-20
6m tethered charging cable
Dedicated 7kW single-phase EV charging circuit
Required RCBO/RCD circuit protection
Charger mounting underneath / near the switchboard location in the garage
Hardwired data / communications cable from the EV charger to the GoodWe inverter location
Dynamic load balancing setup where supported by the GoodWe hardware and system configuration
GoodWe charger setup and commissioning
Testing and commissioning
Certificate of Electrical Safety
The GoodWe EV charger was installed as a dedicated home charging solution for the BMW iX2, while also allowing the charger to be integrated with the existing GoodWe solar and battery setup where supported.
Why This Setup Worked Well
This setup worked well because the property already had GoodWe solar and battery equipment installed in the garage.
Using a GoodWe EV charger allowed the charging system to be configured within the same manufacturer ecosystem where supported by the GoodWe hardware, firmware and SEMS+ platform.
The charger location near the switchboard meant the EV circuit cable run was very short, helping create a clean and practical installation.
The GoodWe inverter and battery equipment were also located nearby, which allowed a direct data/communications cable route between the charger/switchboard area and the GoodWe inverter location.
This setup was a strong fit because it considered:
The BMW iX2 charging requirement
The existing GoodWe solar array
The existing GoodWe home battery system
The main switchboard location
The short charger cable run
The communications pathway to the GoodWe inverter
Dynamic load balancing setup where supported
The need for a clean garage-mounted charger installation
For homes with solar and battery storage, the EV charger should be selected and installed with the wider energy system in mind.
GoodWe Solar, Battery and EV Charger Integration
This installation involved a GoodWe EV charger, GoodWe solar array and GoodWe home battery system.
Where supported by the GoodWe hardware, firmware and SEMS+ platform, the charger can be commissioned as part of the GoodWe ecosystem and configured for supported energy management features.
For this project, the scope included a hardwired data/communications cable from the EV charger to the GoodWe inverter location and setup of dynamic load balancing where supported.
It is important to understand that manufacturer-side app behaviour, firmware, account setup, platform limitations and compatibility may depend on the equipment, software version and manufacturer support.
Aether’s role is to complete the electrical installation, required circuit protection, communications cabling, standard commissioning, testing and customer handover.
For solar and battery homes, the final charger setup should also confirm that the EV charger does not interfere with battery backup circuits, critical loads or the intended home energy system behaviour.
Garage Installation and Short Cable Run
The charger was installed in the garage, underneath / near the main switchboard location.
This made the installation pathway more direct than a long external or detached-garage run.
A short cable run can make the installation cleaner, but the job still needs to be assessed properly. The switchboard capacity, available enclosure space, charger mounting position, protection requirements and GoodWe integration pathway all need to be confirmed before installation.
For this Altona North installation, the charger was positioned neatly in the garage near the existing GoodWe equipment and switchboard area, creating a practical charging point for the BMW iX2.
Testing and Commissioning
After installation, the EV charging circuit and GoodWe charger were tested and commissioned before handover.
The completed installation included the dedicated EV circuit, required RCBO/RCD protection, charger mounting, hardwired communications cable to the GoodWe inverter location, dynamic load balancing setup where supported and GoodWe charger commissioning.
Testing and commissioning are important parts of any EV charger installation. A charger should not simply be mounted and connected without confirming the circuit, protection, cable pathway, communications setup, charger operation and final installation suitability.
The installation was completed with testing, commissioning and Certificate of Electrical Safety.
The Outcome
The finished result was a clean GoodWe 7kW single-phase EV charger installation in Altona North for a BMW iX2.
The charger was installed in the garage near the main switchboard and existing GoodWe solar/battery equipment, connected via a dedicated EV charging circuit and commissioned with GoodWe integration setup where supported.
The customer now has a dedicated home EV charging solution that works with the property’s existing GoodWe solar and battery environment as far as the supported hardware and platform allow.
The project was completed with charger installation, required circuit protection, hardwired communications cabling, GoodWe charger setup, testing, commissioning and Certificate of Electrical Safety.
